Three things:

1) ā€œLipstickā€ is a total jam. I love that ā€˜76 disco sound. Any idea who the musicians were on that track?

2) I was completely unaware of the Polnareff’s album, but your description inspired me to check it out on iTunes… and now I’m scouring Discogs for a nice vinyl copy of this wonderful LP!

3) Have you heard The Birds (Ron Wood’s mod band) covering ā€œLa Poupeeā€¦ā€? It was actually the first version of the song I ever heard…

Glad you’re digging, Dan! I’ve not heard The Birds…..I’ll check it out; thanks for the link!

As for ā€œLipstick,ā€ both song and album….I’m not finding any musicians, but the S’track was recorded at United Western Studios, with David Foster, Jimmie Haskell and Polnareff involved in not only producing, but arranging; as an L.A. product (and being given no more info), I would leap to the ā€œusual L.A. suspects,ā€ perhaps even including some/all The Wrecking Crew.

BTW, speaking of Foster, just a year before (ā€˜75), Stephen Michael Schwartz hired him to be music director (hiring the session players, etc) for his 2nd RCA album, recording at RCA’s studios. Below is Stephen’s pic from the sessions (there are several more exclusive pix in the article, too, linked below).

Stephen’s in the foreground poring over lyrics, while Foster is seen just over Stephen’s right shoulder, with Elton John’s newly-fired bassist, Dee Murray over his left! Recently-fired drummer, Nigel Olsson, was also hired by Foster for the sessions!

Hope that helps, Dan! Thanks again!
