Terrific piece — I became a fan of them when West End came out, I believe it was originally on Bobcat (and MIGHT have been produced by Jelly Bean, but I I may be misremembering). This is a great analysis, found myself nodding along with all of it — forwarded to my two younger brothers who went along for the ride in the 80s!

Thanks, Chris. They were initially signed to Bobcat, that's true, and recorded a number of tracks for the label. Bobcat was Bobby Orlando's record company, and he produced their early material. I don't think Jellybean ever remixed any of their songs though. They were actually quite big fans of Shep Pettibone. 😁

Thanks for reading, taking the time to leave a comment, and for the wonderful compliment. Wishing you a fantastic weekend ahead!

BOBBY ORLANDO!! Yes, I was conflating the two producers. Yes, Shep did a whole boatload of their early 12” remixes, I don’t think I missed a single one. If I recall he may have done a personal favorite of “What Have I…”, and maybe even “Always On My Mind”, but then again my memory isn’t proving itself reliable….but I’m almost certain he did “Love Comes Quickly”. Don’t be bashful about correcting my BS, please!

This week's mix is truly outstanding! I grew up with this music so every song sounds so natural. The writeup is thought-provoking as well, now I will have to listen to Domino again. Thanks for putting the hard work in every week, and welcome back from vacation, Pe!
