Just failed to crack the Top 40 here in the UK, but Best Disco in Town was a top tenner. I do love the melodic content of French pop, but this is all a bit too generic 70s disco for me, although I can't deny all these tracks are expertly done and somewhat intimidating in the level of musicianship involved. Amazing that disco was dismissed in rock circles, when the level of musical skill required was easily the equal to anything the likes of Clapton could come up with; a lot of homophobia swirling around I suspect, even before the disgusting Disco Sucks movement kicked off. Look forward to Dusty next week!
Haha, I was sort of expecting you to guess next week’s topic! And you’re absolutely right about the musicianship — those arrangements were anything but simple, and the number of players involved was huge. Sometimes I wonder if the Philadelphia Philharmonic just lived at Sigma Studios back then. Must’ve been quite the paycheck! Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts, Paul. Have a great weekend!
Mission accomplished, Ellen! I love digging into these kinds of stories and answering the questions that keep popping into my head. Thanks so much for reading and responding, have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks for the shout out, first and foremost. I'm really excited for our episode to air soon. Fascinating deep dive. I love how you bring your historian toolkit to solve some of the best kept secrets of the music industry. Fantastic work!!! 👏🏻
Fascinating stuff, Pe! I already knew all about Morali and Belolo’s Village People successes, but for whatever reason had no idea that they were behind The Ritchie Family. It all makes so much more sense now!
It does, doesn’t it? What I didn’t realize before researching this one is just how influential that Casablanca upbringing was. Thanks for reading and responding, Dan, have a great weekend!
I ❤️ NY
Me too 😁. Thanks Santoro!
Totally forgot about this one! Listening to it again it really was quintessential disco - almost too much so! Cool production though.
Classic Philly! Thanks for reading & reacting Dan! Have a great weekend!

Really interesting, Pe! A slice of music history I knew nothing about. Thank you!

Nice one...especially the Aquarela do Brasil, aka "Brasil!" Ary Barroso, 1939! Have a great weekend!
Such a great song! Thanks, Steve, wishing you a great weekend too!
